If a number of congruent shapes can be joined to make an enlarged model of that shape then the shape is called a reptile (replicating-tile). An example (the sphinx hexiamond) is shown below. Notice that this pattern can be extended to tile the plane in this manner.

The treatment of reptiles here will concentrate on the three polyforms which can be reptiles.
